House of Sauna was founded in 2026 after I became increasingly drawn to the sauna, both for its health benefits and for the way I felt after a long session.

At the same time, I started noticing sauna culture growing around me. Independent saunas were opening across the UK and in Ireland, where I’m from. More people were making sauna part of their weekly routine, and Saturday evenings were starting to shift to the sauna with friends.

As I began using the sauna more often, I wanted to stay in for longer and get more from each session. But the same issue kept coming up. My head would overheat first, I would start to feel light-headed, and my hair and scalp would feel dry from the heat.

That led me to look more closely at sauna tradition, particularly in Finland, where sauna has been part of daily life for generations. It was there that I came across the sauna hat: a simple wool hat designed to insulate the head, protect the hair and scalp, and make high-heat sessions more comfortable.

At first, putting on a wool hat before getting into a hot sauna felt strange, and I thought they looked a bit ridiculous. After trying one properly, I understood it straight away. In the sauna, the head is often the first place to overheat. A wool sauna hat helps slow the rate at which heat reaches the scalp, allowing the rest of the body to warm more gradually and making it easier to stay in the heat for longer.

After using one, I was hooked. It quickly became something I would not get in a sauna without. But when I looked online, I found most sauna hats were either cheaply made, poorly finished, or priced far above what felt reasonable. I wanted to create something better: a high-quality 100% wool sauna hat that looked good, worked properly, and didnt cost more then it needed to.

So after months of research, sampling, and trying to get the small details right, I decided to make my own. That became House of Sauna: a simple, well-made sauna hat inspired by a long-standing tradition, but made for how people use the sauna today.
